7 days  south morocco tour from marrakech

DAY 01: MARRAKECH – OUARZAZATE – ROSES VALLEY – DADES GORGES.

Depart in the morning heading east toward Ouarzazate via the Tizi N’tichka Pass en route passing through the High Atlas Mountains where you can stop to take scenic pictures along the way. You will continue to Ouarzazate, also known as the Hollywood of Africa, which houses the largest movie studios on the continent. We can stop over there for lunch (optional) before setting off through the Skoura, which is an extensive oasis of palm groves, to a beautiful Kasbah called Kasbah Amrhydil. We will then drive through the Rose Valley where the Rose Festival is held every May in this town. After that, the driver will change directions to take an off-beaten track through the mountains populated by the nomads of the Atlas. On the way, keep your eyes open for a numerous Berber villages constructed using mud and bricks. Night will be spent in a hotel at the Dades Valley. (Dinner, Bed and Breakfast).

DAY 02: DADES GORGES – TODRA GORGES – MERZOUGA.

After breakfasts you will continue the road through Dades Valley, set off towards Todra Gorges, lunch in the right place then Carry on the road to Merzouga across Jorf palm Trees and the town of Erfoud where you will visit the workshop production of marble fossils. Arrive the impressive dunes of Merzouga where you will be welcomed with a glas of tea. Overnight accommodation in a hotel.(Dinner, Bed and Breakfast).

DAY 3: ERG CHEBBI AREA AND CAMEL TREK

After breakfast in your riad, you will start an explorative journey of the area before you camel trek and spend the night at the desert camp. Today, you’ll visit the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations. You may also visit the nomad wire house where many Berber handicrafts are priced lower than in the big cities. On the afternoon you will mount your camel, guided by an experienced camel man to explore within the golden sand sea of Merzouga . Dinner in front of the tent where you will spend the night. (the camp is equipped with flush-toilets). (BDB)

DAY 04: MERZOUGA – RISSANI-ALNIF-TAZARINE – DRAA VALLEY – AGDEZ – OUARZAZATE – AIT BENHADDOU.

Early morning wake up for camel riding and outstanding sunrise. Arriving to the Inn hotel for refreshing and breakfast. Departure towards the Palmerie of Tafilalet and the town of Rissani (the origin of the Alaouite dynasty and the ancient capital of Sultans Alaouite) from there to the village of Alnif, whrer we will take the road that traverse all the Jbel Saghro Anti Atlas chain passing the grey-black mountains with different remarkable shapes, crossing the main Berber village of Tazarine and N’kob and from there to the Draa valley with its procession of palms. Late afternoon drive to Ait Benhaddaou via the Anti Atlas mountain through Tizi n Tnifift 1660 m, and Ouarzazate. Night in a hotel with, ( Dinner, Bed and Breakfast).

DAY 5 : AIT BEN HADDOU TO TAROUDANTE VIA TANZNAKHT AND TALIOUINE.

After breakfast in your riad, we’ll head to Taroudant via Taznakht, visiting Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. Built during the beginning of the XXth Century by T-hami El Glaoui -one of the last Berber chieftains -Ben Haddou Kasbah used to be one of his stops during his long travel from the sub-Saharan countries to Marrakech, and is now a UNESCO world heritage site. On to Taliouine, the capital of saffron in Morocco, you have the option to visit the Safran co-operative. If your visit coincides with the saffron harvest, you will have the opportunity to meet the Berber people with their families harvesting the saffron in their fields. We should arrive at Taroudant in the afternoon, here you will see the ramparts and walk within the small alleys in the Medina. Taroudant is always referred to as “The little Marrakech” because it was the built by the Saadian dynasty who used it as their capital before they moved to Marrakech in the 16th century, night in a Riad (Dinner, Bed and Breakfast).

DAY 6 : TAROUDANTE TO ESSAOUIRA VIA AGADIR.

Breakfast in the riad, and then head for Essaouira, travelling via Agadir. Our first stop will be at Agadir, a resort city which was a very big tourist destination for many years. After lunch and a small walk along the Promenade, you will continue to Essaouira. The coastal road offers beautiful scenery, an area famous for the Argan trees. Here you will see herds of goats climbing the Argan trees looking for better food than they can find on the ground. After several stops along the coast we get to Essaouira in the afternoon. Overnight accommodation at a riad in the Medina (Bed and Breakfast).

DAY 7 : FREE MORNING IN ESSAOUIRA THEN DRIVE BACK TO MARRAKECH

After breakfast in your riad, you will have some free time before leaving for Marrakech. On our way – since this is the land of Argan culture – this is an opportunity to visit the women’s co-operative of Argan oil where they extract the oil that is famous for its culinary, cosmetic and medical properties. After several stops to take photographs, you will continue your travel to Marrakech and check in to your riad. After dinner you will have the option to enjoy walking within the famous square of Jemaa El fna, entertained with magicians, story tellers, musicians and snake charmers. Overnight in a Riad. (Bed and Breakfast).
